DiMarzio Steve Vai Signature Model UtoPIA Bridge Humbucker Pickup – Satin Gold

Discover exceptional power, expressive harmonics and distinctive premium styling with the DiMarzio DP289F UtoPIA Bridge Steve Vai Signature Humbucker Pickup. Developed in collaboration with legendary guitarist Steve Vai, the UtoPIA Bridge combines the aggressive character of the renowned Evolution Bridge with enhanced warmth, fuller bass and greater tonal control.

Originally designed for Steve Vai’s signature Ibanez PIA electric guitar, the UtoPIA Bridge was introduced in 2020 as part of a specially developed pickup series. Its design builds upon the powerful and articulate characteristics of the original Evolution Bridge while offering a thicker, more balanced sound suited to modern guitar performance.

One of the UtoPIA Bridge’s defining features is its powerful low-frequency response. DiMarzio refined the pickup’s voicing to provide additional bass depth and greater body in the upper frequencies, creating a full and muscular sound that remains articulate during fast passages and complex chord progressions.

Equipped with a ceramic magnet, the pickup delivers focused attack, excellent definition and a manufacturer-rated 411mV output. This high-output design provides substantial power for progressive rock, hard rock, metal and technically demanding instrumental performances.

Compared with the original Evolution Bridge, the UtoPIA features a more controlled upper-midrange response. This helps reduce excessive aggression while preserving the harmonic richness and clarity associated with Steve Vai’s signature sound. It is particularly effective for bright guitars that naturally emphasise upper-midrange frequencies.

With clean amplification, the pickup produces full-bodied chords and clear melodic passages. Under overdrive and distortion, it delivers thick rhythm tones, powerful sustain and detailed note separation, making it suitable for expressive lead playing and demanding high-gain performances.

Beyond its tonal performance, the UtoPIA Bridge features a distinctive custom laser-cut baroque-style cover positioned over a gold-patterned layer. This elegant design reflects the visual identity of Steve Vai’s Ibanez PIA guitar and gives the pickup a striking appearance.

Designed specifically for the bridge position of compatible six-string solid-body electric guitars, the UtoPIA Bridge is available exclusively with F-Spaced pole-piece alignment.

Its four-conductor wiring supports compatible switching configurations, including coil splitting and parallel humbucking. The pickup also works particularly well with the DiMarzio UtoPIA Middle (DP288F) for additional tonal versatility. For a complete signature pickup set, pair it with the UtoPIA Neck (DP287F).

Available in Satin Gold/Black, Satin Gold/Pink and Satin Gold/White, the DiMarzio UtoPIA Bridge combines powerful performance, refined tonal balance and distinctive artistic styling for guitarists seeking a premium Steve Vai signature pickup.
