Inspired by the legendary late-1950s Patent Applied For (PAF) pickups, this premium replacement humbucker delivers rich harmonics, articulate highs, smooth midrange, and a full-bodied low end for classic electric guitar tone.

Developed using Larry DiMarzio’s own 1959 Cherry Sunburst Les Paul as a reference, the PAF 59 Bridge was designed to reproduce the natural character and responsiveness of exceptional original PAF pickups. Rather than adding excessive tonal colouration, its carefully balanced construction allows the individual voice of the guitar to shine through.

At its heart is a 2½-inch degaussed Alnico 5 magnet, chosen to achieve the softer magnetic response associated with vintage humbuckers. Combined with traditional 42 AWG enamel wire, its scatter-wound coils deliver an open, dynamic sound with rich harmonic complexity and excellent sensitivity to picking strength.

The pickup features unpotted coils, remaining faithful to traditional PAF construction. This contributes to its lively, resonant character, although players using extremely high-gain setups should be aware that unpotted pickups can be more susceptible to microphonic feedback than wax-potted alternatives.

With a manufacturer-rated 215mV output, the PAF 59 Bridge focuses on vintage dynamics rather than aggressive power. Clean tones are clear and articulate, while overdriven sounds develop creamy saturation and expressive harmonic richness without excessive compression.

DiMarzio also incorporates a subtle high-frequency roll-off, giving the bridge pickup a sweeter treble response without sacrificing attack. This makes it particularly suitable for blues, classic rock, jazz-rock, and vintage-inspired performances.

The pickup uses Double Cream butyrate bobbins mounted on a traditional long-leg nickel-silver baseplate. These carefully selected materials contribute to the authentic appearance and construction associated with late-1950s humbuckers.

Designed primarily for the bridge position, the PAF 59 Bridge can also be used in the neck position. It pairs naturally with the DiMarzio PAF 59 Neck (DP274) for a complementary vintage-style humbucker set.

Featuring traditional single-conductor wiring, the pickup integrates with compatible vintage-style guitar electronics. Its passive design requires no battery.
