DiMarzio True Velvet Middle Alnico 5 Single-Coil Electric Guitar Pickup – Aged White, Black, White

DiMarzio True Velvet Middle Alnico 5 Single-Coil Electric Guitar Pickup – Aged White, Black, White

Experience the sparkling clarity, sweet high frequencies and expressive dynamics of a classic Strat-style electric guitar with the DiMarzio DP175S True Velvet Middle Single-Coil Pickup. Designed to capture the warmth and articulation of traditional vintage pickups, the True Velvet Middle delivers a balanced sound that remains bright without becoming excessively sharp or thin.

Introduced in 2008, the True Velvet series represents a further refinement of DiMarzio’s earlier Blue Velvet pickups. Its carefully tuned frequency response emphasises the tonal sweet spot of classic single-coil pickups, preserving crisp attack and detailed articulation while making high-register notes smoother and more musical.

Equipped with Alnico 5 magnets, the True Velvet Middle offers natural picking dynamics, sparkling treble and a well-balanced response across all six strings. Its manufacturer-rated 130mV output delivers traditional vintage-style performance, making it an excellent choice for blues, country, pop, funk, classic rock and other musical styles that benefit from expressive single-coil tone.

One of its defining characteristics is its carefully developed staggered magnet arrangement. The magnets are positioned to help balance the output of individual strings, ensuring that full chords remain clear and articulate while single-note passages sound lively and expressive.

The pickup also features hand-ground magnets and vintage cloth-covered wiring, reflecting the construction details associated with traditional Strat-style pickups.

Unlike the matching True Velvet Neck model, the True Velvet Middle uses a reverse-polarity magnetic configuration. When installed with compatible standard-polarity neck and bridge single-coils, it helps cancel unwanted electrical hum in the second and fourth positions of a conventional five-way pickup selector.

This design preserves the characteristic combination tones associated with Strat-style electric guitars, including the distinctive hollow, glassy sound commonly described as quack. It is especially effective for clean rhythm playing, funky chord patterns, blues phrasing and expressive melodic passages.

When used independently, the True Velvet Middle remains a traditional single-coil pickup rather than a noiseless or stacked humbucker. Normal single-coil hum may therefore be present when the middle pickup is selected on its own.

With clean amplification, the pickup produces clear chords, sparkling melodies and a responsive playing feel. Under light overdrive, it maintains its definition while developing the natural grit and warmth associated with vintage-style single-coil pickups.

Designed for the middle position of compatible six-string Strat-style electric guitars, the True Velvet Middle pairs naturally with the True Velvet Neck (DP175) and True Velvet Bridge (DP176) for a balanced three-pickup configuration.

Available in Aged White (DP175SAW), Black (DP175SBK) and White (DP175SW), all three variations share the same electrical specifications and tonal characteristics.

Whether you’re restoring a vintage-inspired Stratocaster or upgrading a modern guitar, the DiMarzio True Velvet Middle delivers authentic single-coil character, excellent string balance and versatile combination tones with reduced hum in the appropriate selector positions.
