DiMarzio Steve Vai Signature Model UtoPIA Neck Humbucker Pickup – Satin Gold

Discover expressive warmth, powerful tonal depth and distinctive signature styling with the DiMarzio DP287F UtoPIA Neck Steve Vai Signature Humbucker Pickup. Developed in collaboration with legendary guitarist Steve Vai, the UtoPIA Neck delivers a refined combination of rich bass, smooth high frequencies and exceptional note clarity for modern electric guitar performance.

Originally introduced in 2020 for Steve Vai’s signature Ibanez PIA electric guitar, the UtoPIA series builds upon the performance characteristics of his earlier Evolution pickups. The UtoPIA Neck uses the Evolution Neck as its starting point but features a revised tonal balance designed to produce a fuller, warmer sound with greater control over aggressive upper-midrange frequencies.

One of the UtoPIA Neck’s defining characteristics is its impressive low-frequency response. The pickup delivers bold, full-bodied bass without sacrificing clarity, giving chords and melodic passages greater weight and depth. Its thicker high frequencies produce smooth, singing lead tones while helping to prevent excessive sharpness.

Equipped with a ceramic magnet, the pickup provides precise attack and strong articulation. Its manufacturer-rated 315mV output delivers a powerful, controlled response suitable for clean amplification, overdrive and high-gain guitar performances.

Compared with the original Evolution Neck, the UtoPIA Neck places less emphasis on aggressive upper-midrange frequencies. This creates a smoother, more balanced sound while retaining the harmonic richness and detailed articulation associated with Steve Vai’s signature playing style.

The UtoPIA Neck is particularly effective for technically demanding lead guitar performances. Rapid alternate-picking passages, fluid legato runs, sustained bends and expressive vibrato remain clear and musical, even when using substantial distortion.

With clean amplification, the pickup produces warm, detailed chords and expressive melodic tones. Under overdrive, it delivers rich sustain, smooth highs and a substantial low-frequency foundation.

Designed primarily for the neck position of compatible six-string solid-body electric guitars, the UtoPIA Neck can also be used in the bridge position when paired with a lower-output neck pickup.

The pickup features four-conductor wiring, allowing additional switching configurations such as coil splitting and parallel humbucking with compatible electronics. It works especially well with the DiMarzio UtoPIA Middle (DP288F) when used in appropriate split-coil combinations.

Beyond its tonal performance, the UtoPIA Neck features a distinctive custom laser-cut baroque-style cover over a gold-patterned layer, reflecting the elegant visual design of Steve Vai’s Ibanez PIA.

Available in Satin Gold/Black, Satin Gold/Pink and Satin Gold/White, all three configurations feature F-Spaced pole-piece alignment and share the same electrical specifications.

For a complete signature setup, pair the UtoPIA Neck with the UtoPIA Middle (DP288F) and UtoPIA Bridge (DP289F).

Whether you’re building a Steve Vai-inspired instrument or upgrading a modern performance guitar, the DiMarzio UtoPIA Neck delivers expressive dynamics, rich harmonic character, smooth high frequencies and unmistakable premium styling.
