DiMarzio PAF® Master Neck Humbucker Pickup – Black, Cream

DiMarzio PAF® Master Neck Humbucker Pickup – Black, Cream

Experience vintage-inspired warmth, exceptional clarity and expressive guitar tone with the DiMarzio DP260 PAF Master Neck Humbucker Pickup. Designed to capture the musical character of classic PAF humbuckers while offering refined modern performance, the PAF Master Neck delivers a full-bodied yet articulate sound suitable for a wide range of playing styles.

Introduced in 2014, the PAF Master Neck was developed for guitarists seeking a vintage humbucker that combines warmth, brightness and dynamic sensitivity without becoming excessively thick or muddy. Its carefully balanced tonal response produces smooth, creamy high frequencies, a rich midrange and clear bass notes that remain defined during complex chord progressions.

One of its defining features is DiMarzio’s specially tuned coil design. Rather than relying on randomly mismatched coils to recreate traditional PAF characteristics, DiMarzio tunes the coils to different frequencies, achieving a lively and harmonically rich response while preserving effective hum cancellation.

Equipped with an Alnico 5 magnet, the PAF Master Neck produces articulate note attack, excellent sensitivity to picking dynamics and natural sustain. Its manufacturer-rated 193mV output delivers an expressive vintage-output response that remains clear and musical through clean amplifiers, overdrive pedals and moderately distorted guitar rigs.

The pickup responds particularly well to subtle changes in playing technique. Gentle picking produces warm, rounded notes, while stronger attacks reveal greater brightness and definition. This versatility makes it an excellent choice for blues, classic rock, jazz, fusion and melodic lead guitar performances.

In the neck position, the PAF Master delivers a rich but controlled response, allowing lower strings to retain clarity without overpowering the upper register. Single-note melodies sound smooth and expressive, while chords remain open and detailed.

The pickup pairs naturally with the DiMarzio PAF Master Bridge (DP261), creating a complementary vintage-inspired humbucker set. While the Neck model uses an Alnico 5 magnet, the matching Bridge uses Alnico 4, giving each pickup a distinctive response suited to its intended position.

Featuring four-conductor wiring, the PAF Master Neck supports additional configurations such as coil splitting and parallel humbucking when installed with compatible switching electronics. Its passive design requires no battery.

Available in Black (DP260BK) and Cream (DP260CR), both Standard-spaced versions share identical electrical specifications and tonal characteristics.

Whether you’re upgrading a Les Paul-style guitar, refining a custom instrument or searching for expressive vintage humbucker tones, the DiMarzio PAF Master Neck delivers a refined balance of warmth, clarity, smooth sustain and responsive performance.
