DiMarzio Red Velvet Single-Coil Elctric Guitar Pickup – Aged White

DiMarzio Red Velvet Single-Coil Elctric Guitar Pickup – Aged White

Bring vintage-inspired tone, expressive dynamics, and powerful articulation to your Stratocaster-style electric guitar with the DiMarzio DP174AW Red Velvet Single-Coil Pickup. Designed to combine the sharp, lively attack of a traditional Strat pickup with the punch and warmth associated with classic Telecaster bridge pickups, the Red Velvet delivers a distinctive sound that balances clarity, definition, and midrange presence.

At the heart of the Red Velvet’s design is DiMarzio’s innovative Power Plate, positioned beneath the pickup to enhance its magnetic response and produce a fuller, more commanding sound. To maintain natural string vibration without excessive magnetic pull, each pickup undergoes a carefully calibrated magnetic adjustment process.

Equipped with Alnico 5 magnets, the Red Velvet features a specially designed pole-piece stagger inspired by DiMarzio’s True Velvet pickups. Combined with custom coil winding, this construction produces bright, articulate highs, a focused low end, and a distinctive midrange growl that helps guitar notes stand out during both clean and overdriven performances.

With a manufacturer-rated 180mV output, the DP174AW offers a stronger response than many traditional vintage-style Strat pickups while maintaining the expressive character of a true single-coil design. This makes it particularly suitable for blues, classic rock, country, and other playing styles that benefit from clear picking dynamics and responsive string attack.

Originally developed for the bridge position, the Red Velvet delivers a punchy and lively response that complements the naturally brighter character of Stratocaster-style guitars. However, it can also be installed in the neck or middle position, giving guitarists flexibility when creating their preferred pickup combination.

DiMarzio recommends pairing the Red Velvet bridge pickup with a set of True Velvet pickups for a classic yet distinctive Strat-style sound. Its passive construction requires no battery, while traditional two-conductor wiring allows integration with compatible guitar electronics.

Finished in Aged White, the DP174AW provides a warm, vintage-inspired appearance that complements classic and modern Stratocaster-style instruments.

Whether you’re upgrading your guitar’s original pickup, building a custom Strat-style instrument, or searching for a single-coil sound with additional midrange presence, the DiMarzio Red Velvet offers an excellent combination of punch, clarity, and expressive playability.
